Breast reduction
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces breast volume while simultaneously reshaping the breasts. Many women suffer from physical discomfort such as back, neck, or shoulder pain, as well as skin irritation under the breasts. Large breasts can also negatively impact self-confidence and reduce quality of life. Modern breast surgery offers safe methods to treat these problems and achieve aesthetically pleasing results.
During breast reduction surgery, excess breast tissue, fat, and skin responsible for overly large breasts are removed. The breasts are then reshaped and positioned proportionally to the body to achieve a harmonious appearance. Modern breast reduction techniques ensure that the breasts appear symmetrical and create an aesthetically pleasing overall look. Before the operation, the patient's height and breast weight are calculated. The surgeon then creates precise drawings illustrating the shape and position of the new breasts. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts two to four hours, depending on the extent of the reduction. As with all surgical procedures, breast reduction surgery leaves small scars. An inverted T-shaped incision is often used. The scar around the nipple remains inconspicuous because it lies within the color-changing area of the areola. The scar under the breast is usually a thin, barely visible line that does not disrupt the natural breast contour. Thanks to modern surgical techniques, the scars are minimally visible after healing. Modern breast reduction techniques also take breast function into account. In many cases, breastfeeding is still possible after the operation. Although some breast tissue is removed, especially in cases of large breasts, breastfeeding function is usually preserved. Women planning breast reduction after breastfeeding can safely undergo the procedure approximately six months after the end of the lactation period.
