Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping, is a proven surgical procedure for correcting the shape, size, or proportions of the nose. The goal is to create a harmonious nasal shape that balances the overall appearance of the face and is aesthetically pleasing. Rhinoplasty can pursue both functional and aesthetic goals. In addition to reshaping the nose, it can also improve nasal breathing, for example, in cases of a deviated septum. The procedure is individually planned to optimally adapt the nose to the facial proportions and the patient's wishes. Modern rhinoplasty techniques allow for precise changes with minimal scarring and natural-looking results. Healing typically takes several weeks, during which swelling and bruising gradually subside. Rhinoplasty is suitable for anyone who wants to improve the shape of their nose, correct asymmetries, or address functional impairments. With professional planning and precise surgical technique, rhinoplasty ensures a harmonious, aesthetically pleasing result and a natural, confident appearance.

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose correction, is a surgical procedure to improve the shape, size, and proportions of the nose. The goal is a harmonious appearance that blends seamlessly with the face and achieves an aesthetically pleasing, natural result.

There are two main methods of rhinoplasty: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

  • Open rhinoplasty: In this method, a small incision is made in the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), allowing the surgeon to fully visualize and precisely adjust the nasal structure. This technique is particularly suitable for complex corrections or reconstructions.

  • Closed rhinoplasty: In this procedure, the incisions are made exclusively inside the nose, leaving no visible scars. This method is suitable for minor adjustments or corrections to the shape of the nose.

A rhinoplasty can also improve functional aspects, such as breathing in cases of a crooked nose or deviated septum. Modern techniques ensure precise results, minimal scarring, and rapid healing. Swelling and bruising typically subside within a few weeks. Rhinoplasty is ideal for anyone wishing to refine the shape of their nose, correct asymmetrical structures, or improve nasal breathing, resulting in a harmonious, natural, and aesthetically pleasing face.

Consultation

A detailed consultation is the first step before any plastic surgery procedure. The plastic surgeon will discuss your wishes, your individual anatomical characteristics, and the possible results. Risks, potential complications, and alternative treatment methods will also be explained. Patients should ask any questions they may have and, if desired, bring someone with them to the appointment. Several consultations are often helpful to ensure a well-informed decision regarding the procedure.

Preparation and procedure

Careful preparation is crucial before the operation. Blood-thinning medications such as aspirin should be discontinued at least 14 days prior to the procedure. Hormonal medications, smoking, and alcohol should be reduced or temporarily stopped after consulting with your doctor. Inform your surgeon about any allergies, pre-existing medical conditions, or regular medications. Smokers should ideally quit four weeks before the procedure to minimize the risk of wound healing problems. The procedure is individually planned and can be performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia. The duration of the operation varies depending on the technique. Modern techniques allow for natural-looking results, short scars, and rapid healing. During the operation, excess skin and, if necessary, deeper tissue layers are tightened to achieve a harmonious, rejuvenated appearance.

After the operation

Swelling, bruising, and slight numbness are normal after the procedure. Dressings and drains are usually removed within a day, and sutures after five to fourteen days. Exercise, smoking, sunlight, and blood-thinning medications should be avoided for several weeks. Careful aftercare and regular check-ups ensure optimal results and a speedy recovery.
